Twilight? Yes or No?

Who out there has read Twilight? I keep hearing raves about it from people who I generally have the same taste in books. I have NEVER been a fan of vampires since I slept over at my friends house, I think I was about 7 years old, and for some ridiculous reason the entertainment for the night was Count Dracula. I called my mom at midnight and told her I was afraid and wanted to come home. She told me to wake up my friends mom and tell her that I was coming home. I was too embarrassed to wake my friends mom up, so I begged and pleaded with my mom to call back and tell my friends mom that I must come home and that she would be right over to pick me up. A minute later the phone rang, and right after my friends mom came walking down the stairs to get me ready for my mom to pick me up. I got sick that night after I got home, and from then on I told people I was physically allergic to scary movies, they made me sick. I still pretty much stick with that allergic story, and could count on one hand the scary movies I have seen. Although there are some classic Hitchcock movies that I saw at the Paramount that I made it through without losing my lunch, and I think I have watched Bedroom Window, which was based on a Hitchcock classic, a couple of times. That is the extent of my scary movie repetoire and I still haven't watched another vampire movie, except for the Lost Boys. So help me out, tell me what you think.

I keep hearing all about how good the book is too. I'm in the middle of a Hemingway phase right now though. Love his narrative style. I keep thinking Ernest Hemingway sounds like he's blogging...

YES!!! These books are really good, and not really scary at all. (or I didn't think so) I don't like vampires and certainly didn't think I would enjoy reading a book about them, but they are very light reading. If you decide you want to read the series, don't purchase them, you can borrow mine. But don't blame me if you hate them either! :)

As Ashley has explained it to me, it is far more romance than vampire. The struggle/ romance comes from: his vampire nature wants to kill her/ take her blood, but he loves her too much to do it. He's evidently perfect, according to Ashley. Having my 12 year old think there is a perfect man out there, vampire or not, is the scariest part of it to me!

I am with you on the allergy to scary movies!! I HATE them!! I can't even watch movies that are suspenseful...for example I left about 30 minutes in to the DaVinci Code because it freaked me out too much...I'm a huge baby when it comes to stuff like that. So I will not be getting in to the Twilight books even though my dear friend M'chelle says they are wonderful!! ;D I just can't chance those sleepless nights and nightmares about creepy vampires :D

Well, Tammy, I can't speak for whether or not they are good, because I haven't read them. In fact, until today I hadn't heard of them...I just always heard people talking about Edward Cullen. I didn't know who he was!!! So, ironically today, I Googled him, and read up on the story line, and I have to admit I'm interested!!

A lot of the home school moms and daughters (16-19yo) have read and really enjoyed them. They are going to go and see the movie tomorrow. I have not read them though so I have no personal information to pass on. However I do remember one time when you took me to see Misery. Do you remember that? At the end when she comes back you screamed so loud in the theater and that caused many other people in the theater to scream as well. That was the best. I do not like scary movies anymore. I used to love them. But I would for sure go to a scary movie with you any day. I think this is a love story not so much scary though.

I started reading them after several of my high school students couod NOT STOP talking about how wonderful they were. One student brought me the first one and I was hooked!!! I do not htink they are scary- it is much more about the relationships than about the fear factor. I have read the first 3 and I am looking forward to the fourth one over Thanksgiving break!
