Ancient Prayer today by St. Patrick

May the Strength of God guide us.
May the Power of God preserve us.
May the Wisdom of God instruct us.
May the Hand of God protect us.
May the Way of God direct us.
May the Shield of God defend us.
May the Angels of God guard us.
- Against the snares of the evil one.

May Christ be with us!
May Christ be before us!
May Christ be in us,
Christ be over all!

May Thy Grace, Lord,
Always be ours,
This day, O Lord, and forevermore. Amen.

I love the story of St. Patrick, I have written here before about his life. But, I always like reminders, as a boy St. Patrick was kidnapped from his homeland in Britain, by Irish Raiders. He was brought back to Ireland and was a slave to a cruel master for 6 years. He learned the language of the Irish people during his servitude. God gave him dreams at the end of his 6 years and told him that a ship would await him to take him back home. Then another dream that he should start to fast as his time of escape was near. And finally the time came when he was given the dream to flee his cruel master. He did so and God led him 200 miles away over land he had no previous knowledge. He arrived at the ship and the captain refused his boarding because he had no money. He walked away and was on his way to pray and shortly after men came screaming after him telling him to board the ship, all was well. Many people died of starvation on this boat ride from Ireland to Britain. It would be to Ireland that he would return and share God's word with. He brought thousands to God. He chose to live without protection by the authorities and would not accept bribes or money from those in authority.
