Jack Speaks!

Tammy says -
Jack said "mom" today!!!!
He was waking up so he wasn't really thinking about it when he said it. Just said mom real loud. The speech therapist says that the most common words he knows will be what he can say first, and when he is not thinking about how to talk, they might just slip out.

I got a great quote from the chaplin here. I have so much admiration for Mother Teresa, and always have enjoyed reading her words, and about her actions. I have continually been thankful for the blessings in this situation, but there is a part of me that is a little miffed with this situation also, God can do anything, so why is this being allowed to happen to Jack? I go back and forth in my prayers with thankfulness and then lament.

But this quote has calmed my spirit a little...

Some people came to Calcutta, and before leaving, they begged me: "Tell us something that will help us to live our lives better." And I said: "Smile at each other; smile at your wife, smile at your husband, smile at your children, smile at each other - it doesn't matter who it is- and that will help you to grow up in greater love for each other.: And then one of them asked me: "Are you married?" and I said; "Yes, and I find it difficult sometimes to smile at Jesus." And it is true, Jesus can be very demanding also, and it is at those times when he is so demanding that to give him a big smile is very beautiful.

From A Gift for God by Mother Teresa.

These times are hard for me to smile, but when I am thankful to God for the good and that the bad isn't worse, I feel a blessing in my heart from Him.
Have a good weekend.

Leave it to you, Tammy, to challenge and encourage us all from the bedside of your little boy!

I knew that the utterance of "Mom" would be the most beautiful music to your ears (I will try to remember that when I am tempted to reply, "Mom says she resigned yesterday." :-) Jack just needs to act like me -- quit thinking and talk! I'm available for tutoring!

Miss both of you so much!

You must have been thrilled to hear Jack's sweet little voice say, "Mom". I can't think of a better gift for you today.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

JACK and Tammy
Seeing Jack and his beautiful big blue eyes and the dimple in his cheek made me feel so much better. I guess the "nurse part" of me has been more concerned than I even realized. Also knowing he said "Mom" and it sounded like he was trying to say something when we left. (wishful thinking?) God is Great and we shall all keep praying for you both. By the way we found our way BACK to the freeway with no problems, the girl downstairs gave excellent directions (no more "U turns") Avis & Don

So good to hear from you again.I have had a sick computer so have missed the blog and daily reports from you. We are so pleased to hear that Jack said,"Mom." Such a precious word for a mom to hear.(no matter how old her children are.) We continue to pray for a steady and complete recovery for Jack and the return of all of you to Abilene. Take care and remember we love you. Glenda H.

We've missed some of the reports on the computer, but it was just great to hear, today, that Jack said
"Mom". How sweet that must have sounded to you!

Our thoughts are with you all. And our prayers are that Jack will continue to improve every day, and that your family will all be together in Abilene, once again, very soon. Until then, know that we miss you. Newhouses

Tammy,
I am so happy to hear that Jack has said MOM! I hope that your days are going fast. I can only imagine how tired and drained you must be. Keep your chin up and know that we are thinking of you and your family everyday. We check this blog several times throughout the day.

Oh by the way...the bracelets should be here at the beginning of next week. It will take me a few days to get them packaged to send to everyone, but I will do it as fast as I can. Your package will be the first to go out! We have sold over 300 and I have lots of people still asking for them. I can't wait for Jack to see people that he knows from church, school, etc. wearing bracelets for him!

One of the ladies that I work with has been telling her Sunday school class about Jack. They have all been praying for him and learning all kinds of things about what has happened. The kids are so concerned about Jack. She said that she gets about 2 e-mails a day from parents of her Sunday School kids asking for updates on Jack. They are also following this blog. They made him cards and sent them to him. The package may have ended up at your house. Hopefully they will get to Jack soon and cheer him up. Children are so pure and sweet.

We love you!

Love,
Cari

Dear Tammy and Jack,
Sounds like you both have had an encouraging week with all of Jack's activities and that beautiful word "MOM"!! I got to talk to Rob and Elaine for a little bit on Wednesday night. It was good to see their faces again...and it won't be long until you and Jack are back here as well. Rob had his "Brain Team" shirt on for us all to see. God is working in miraculous ways every day in your lives.

Remember the song from years gone by: "It isn't any trouble just to S-M-I-L-E!" Keep smiling...share a smile with Jack for us!

Love you and miss you!

What great news! And, what a beautiful quote from Mother Teresa. A great big smile will take care of a lot of things, while we wait for God to act in His own time. We love you, Tammy and Jack, and are praying for you. (We love the rest of the family, too!)

Saturday afternoon here at Our Children's House. We have had a fun day with family in. Rob, Tom and Elaine, DJ and Sophie, and visits from some great old friends and great new friends.
I am glad to say that Jack poked his tongue out at me, another first. I don't think he was being mean, just figured out he could make it work for the first time today. Jack has enjoyed DJ and Sophie. They have both doted on him all day, when not taking turns riding in his wheelchair. DJ has become a pro at navigating himself in it.
We are grateful for all your prayers. Keep praying, we are seeing great improvement everyday.
Love to you all.
